A MALP is a fictional device in the sci-fi Stargate universe.
MALP stands for Mobile Analytic Laboratory Probe. A MALP is used by the SGC to determine if a planet's atmospheric conditions are safe, before sending an SG team.
The MALP's other main function is to visually inspect the area immediately surrounding the Stargate, to check for enemy troops or a functioning DHD, for example.
