Lot-et-Garonne is a French département named after the Lot and Garonne rivers.
The département was created during the French Revolution on March 4, 1790, in application of the law of December 22, 1789, from part of the province of Guyenne et Gascogne. Some of the original southeastern cantons were separated from it in 1808 to form the département of Tarn-et-Garonne.
The département of Lot-et-Garonne is part of the Aquitaine region. It borders the départements of Lot, Tarn-et-Garonne, Gers, Landes, Gironde, and Dordogne.
