Location

Loir-et-Cher is a French département. It is in the Centre region of north-central France, and was formed from parts of the old provinces of Orléanais and Touraine.

Its main waterways are the rivers Cher and the Loire on which the town of Blois, the préfecture (capital) of the département, is situated.

The département is the site of the Royal château of Blois, Château Cheverny, Château Chaumont, as well as the village of Chambord with its renowned Château de Chambord built by King François I.
