List of anti-cult activists

The following people are anti-cult activists who may or not be officially tied to one of the main anti-cult organizations like the American Family Foundation. They criticize new religious movements that they consider to be cults. Many of these anti-cult activists target only the group from which they have become disaffected. Some of them are exit counselors.

• Steven Hassan targets many groups and is an exit counselor. He is an ex-member of the Unification Church. He advances a theory of mind control called the Bite model.

• Anton Hein targets many groups from a Christian point of view. Technically he is not an anti-cult activist but a Christian countercult activist.

• David Christopher Lane is a professor of philosophy and sociology at Mount San Antonio College, California, USA. He has a Ph.D. from the University of California at San Diego. He targets several groups such as Eckankar, Radhaswami gurus and Sathya Sai Baba. This unconventional academic is very active on the Internet.

• Barry Pittard targets Sathya Sai Baba.

• Basava Premanand targets many Indian gurus especially if they claim to perform miracles.

• Robert Priddy is an ex-member of Sathya Sai Baba group.

• Rick Ross targets many groups, and is an exit counselor.

• Margaret Singer is a prominent advocate of the brainwashing theory.
