¹Date of appointment; never assumed office.
Since the establishment of Saskatchewan and Alberta from the Territories' most populated regions, the Territories have had no lieutenant-governor. Instead, the Queen is represented by a commissioner. Yukon territory was carved out of the Northwest Territories in 1898 and has had its own Commissioners of the Yukon since then.
