List of English words of Polish origin

This is a list of words used in the English language that were borrowed or derived from the Polish language.

• babka, a kind of cake
• intelligentsia - came into English via Russian language, where it came from Polish language, originally from the Latin word intelligentia
• kasha, Buckwheat groats, Russian for "porridge"
• kielbasa - kind of sausage
• mazurka - kind of dance
• pirogi, also Polish pierogi, (plural) dumplings or pies.
• pirozhki (piroshki) small pirogi
• Sejm - a Polish Diet or parliament
• spruce - kind of wood, from the Polish z prus ("from Prussia"), because spruce was exported via Royal Prussia as the material for English ships
• szlachta - Polish nobility
• vodka - alcoholic drink
