The Lexus SC is a coupe made by Lexus. It is a rear-wheel drive, front-engine mid-sized coupe availaible in the United States with a 3.0-liter Inline-6 (SC300) or a 4.0-liter V-8 (SC400), and in Japan also available with a 2.5-liter twin turbo Inline-6 (Soarer 2.5GT-T/TL). The MKIII Soarer began production in January 1991 and continued production until June 2000. The Toyota Soarer/Lexus SC coupe has always been assembled at Toyota's Higashifuji Technical Center in Japan. The Lexus 1UZ-FE V-8 motor used in the SC400 & LS400 models was reported to have cost over $400 million in research and development. The SC300 shares the same engine as a Naturally Aspirated (N/A) MKIV Toyota Supra and the SC300 have had an option until 1997 to have a manual (5-speed) transmission.
The Lexus SC300 and SC400 were assembled in Motomatchi, Japan. Production of the SC Coupe began on June 24, 1991 as a 1992 model. Production ended on July 7, 2000.
