Mefloquine hydrochloride (trade name Lariam) is an anti-malarial drug manufactured by Roche Pharmaceuticals. It is a synthetic drug with a similar action to quinine.
The drug has been anecdotally linked to suicidal behavior, and the drug is currently at the center of a scandal involving at least 11 suicides among U.S. soldiers who received the drug in 2003.
