Landes is a French département.
Historically, Landes was part of Gascony. It was created as a separate département during the French Revolution on March 4, 1790, in application of the Law of December 22, 1789, partitioning the provinces of Guyenne and Gascony.
The département of Landes is part of the Aquitaine. It borders the départements of Gironde, Lot-et-Garonne, Gers, and Pyrénées-Atlantiques, as well as the Atlantic Ocean.
Landes is also the name of a commune in the Charente-Maritime département, in France.
