Lae is a city in eastern Papua New Guinea with a population of 80,655 (1990). It is the capital of Morobe province. It is located near the Huon Gulf. Lae was occupied by Japan during World War II, 1942-1943. Lae is home to air transport lines into nearby gold fields.
