Lal Krishna Advani is an Indian politician.
Advani is the Leader of the Opposition in the 14th Lok Sabha. He is a prominent figure in the Bharatiya Janata Party and was the Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister in the Indian government(1998-2004). Many consider him, rather than Atal Behari Vajpayee, to be the most influential figure in the party due to the latter's old age and failing health.
In 1992 he created a major controversy by leading a "Rath Yatra" (chariot journey) across India to the city of Ayodhya, a trip that culminated in the destruction of the Babri Mosque. Advani is charged for failing to stop the mob that he lead from destroying the Babri Masjid. He has appeared several times with the Liberhan Commission, which looked into the demolition.
