Katy residents often split the city into two informal sections: Old Katy (or Katy Proper) and New Katy. Significant economic and demographic differences exist between the two areas. Old Katy lies more or less north of I-10, and encompasses the downtown area. The opposite is true of New Katy, which lies more or less south of I-10 and includes the Ken Lay YMCA and the myriad Cinco Ranch neighborhoods.
