Kato was the name of a sidekick character in the radio and television series The Green Hornet; in the latter, he was played by Bruce Lee.
Kato was the Green Hornet's driver and bodyguard, and also an expert in kung fu. It was due in part to Lee's portrayal of this character that kung fu became popular in the United States in the 1960s.
In the Black Mask action film series, the title character typically strongly resembles Kato in costume.
