Kakar

Kakar is the largest Pashtun tribe in Afghanistan and in Pakistan. Kakar was one of the grandsons of Qais Abdur Rashid, meaning that Kakar was a son of Dani, son of Ghorghushet, son of Qais in the Afhgan appendix of tribes. Kakar had 26 sons (some historians believe he had 29), who broke up into 26 sub-tribes, such as the Churmaikhel, Taraghzai, Sonzarkhel, Musaakhel, Jadon (Gadoon) and the Abubakarzai (Sanatia). The Kakar tribe is geographically widespread, being present in most provinces of Afghanistan, the northern part of Balochistan, Pakistan and in India.

In Hyderabad, the family of nawabs belonged to the Kakar tribe. The famous Muslim warrior Sher Shah Suri, who ruled in India, was a Barakzai Kakar, which is a sub-tribe of the Taraghzai Kakar. In India, some Kakar tribespeople have converted to Hinduism, but many remain Muslims. By AHMAD YAR KHAN KAKAR
