Kaiser Permanente



         


Kaiser Permanente is the largest non-profit health maintenance organization in the United States. It was founded in 1945 by industrialist Henry J. Kaiser from an organization he and physician Sidney Garfield, MD created during the second World War in order to care for the 90,000 employees of his Oakland, California shipyards. Today (2004) there are 8.2 million members.
