Joseph LaMotta
Joseph LaMotta was the 49-year-old son of former middleweight boxing champion Jake LaMotta and a well-known chef. A boxer in his own right -- he entered some Golden Gloves competitions -- Joe LaMotta was also the president of LaMotta Foods, Inc. His last creation was a product called 'LaMotta Tomatta Sauce.' He was played by Joe Pesci (Lethal Weapon 2, Home Alone 2: Lost In New York) in the 1980 Martin Scorsese movie Raging Bull.
Joseph LaMotta was one of the 229 people aboard Swissair Flight 111 when it crashed into the Atlantic Ocean off the coastal town of Peggy's Cove, Nova Scotia. He was headed to Geneva to promote LaMotta Tomatta Sauce. His father filed suit against Swissair and Boeing, which years earlier had acquired McDonnell Douglas, the manufacturer of the MD-11 that crashed off Nova Scotia.
