In 1221 in Japan, the Jokyu incident (承久の乱 Jōkyū no ran) was the attempt of Imperial Court to recapture the real power from the Kamakura Shogunate, led by retired Emperor Go-Toba.
The incident completely spoiled the reputation of the Imperial Court as the official ruler of Japan. Instead, the shogunate established the complete dominance in Japan.
