Johnny Isakson

Johnny Isakson (born December 24 1944), American politician, has been a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives since 1999, representing the 6th District of Georgia. He was born in Atlanta, Georgia, was educated at the University of Georgia, and was a member of the Georgia House of Representatives and the Georgia Senate before entering the House.

On July 20, 2004, Isakson defeated other Republican contenders (Herman Cain and Mac Collins) to secure the Republican nomination for the Georgia U.S. Senate seat left vacant by the retirement of Democratic Senator Zell Miller, who defeated Isakson in the race for Governor in 1990. Isakson is running against Democratic nominee Denise Majette, a first-term Representative from Georgia's Fourth Congressional District. The election is set to occur on November 2, 2004.
