John Rees is a British Trotskyist politician, and national secretary of the RESPECT coalition. He is a member of the Central Committee of the Socialist Workers Party, and is a former editor of International Socialism. He was co-founder of the Stop the War Coalition launched in the United Kingdom in 2001 and is vice-president of the International Campaign Against Aggression on Iraq launched in Egypt in 2003.
He was top of the RESPECT party list in the West Midlands region for the 2004 European Election, and stood as a RESPECT candidate for the Birmingham Hodge Hill by-election in 2004, coming fourth with over 6% of the vote.
He is the author of numerous books and articles including Trotsky and the Dialectic of History (1990), The Algebra of Revolution (1999), and The Socialist Revolution and the Democratic Revolution (1999).
