John P. Buchanan



         


John Price Buchanan (18471930) was governor of Tennessee from 1891 to 1893.

A former two-term member of the state legislature, Buchanan's term in office was marked by violence in the East Tennessee coal mines, which was eventually put down by the State Guard. The Confederate pension system was put in place during his tenure. He returned to farming after one two-year term.
