Commissioner Joey D. Williams, a Dayton native, was elected to the Dayton City Commission in 2002, after serving two terms as a member of the Dayton School Board and being active in numerous community causes. As a City elected official, he supports an agenda that includes enhancing neighborhoods and creating jobs through economic development, ensuring safety and strong City services, improving education, and helping to bridge the digital divide. Williams? experience as a local banking executive and community activist has prepared him well to address the challenges facing Dayton in the future. His recognitions include receiving Dayton?s Top 40 Under 40 honor, being selected as a Parity 2000 Top 10 African-American Male, and joining the Central State University Alumni Hall of Fame.
A graduate of the Dayton Public Schools, Commissioner Williams served eight years on the Dayton Board of Education, being first elected in 1993 and re-elected in 1997. He also served as Chairman of the Education Committee for City of Dayton?s long-range strategic planning process, called CitiPlan 20/20. Commissioner Williams is a firm believer in preparing our young people and our community to function well in the age of information technology. He is committed to encouraging public and private sector support for educational and training opportunities and stimulating business investment to enable Dayton citizens to be part of the growing digital economy, regardless of race or social status.
Commissioner Williams has been involved in a variety of community organizations, including the West Dayton YMCA, Southern Christian Leadership Conference, the Beacon Group, the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra Board, the Wright Computer Connection and the United Way.
Commissioner Williams is married and has two young sons. He is a graduate of the Dayton Public Schools, earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from Central State University and received a Masters of Business Administration from Ohio State University. He is employed full time as the Vice President of Commercial Banking at Bank One.
