Jimmy Garrison



         


Jimmy Garrison (19341976) was an American jazz double bassist best known for his long association with John Coltrane. He appears on may Coltrane recordings, including My Favorite Things and A Love Supreme.

He also performed with Bill Barron, Ornette Coleman, Kenny Dorham, Philly Joe Jones, Lee Konitz, Jackie McLean, Pharaoh Sanders, Tony Scott, and Archie Shepp, among others.

He also had a long association with Coleman, first recording wth him on Art of the Improvisers. He and Elvin Jones have been credited with eliciting more forceful playing than usual from Coleman on the albums New York is Now and Love Call.
