Simplified Chinese: 江苏, Traditional: 江蘇, Hanyu Pinyin: Jiāngsū, Wade-Giles: Chiang-su, Postal System Pinyin: Kiang-su) is a province of the People's Republic of China, located in the eastern part of the country.
The name "Jiangsu" comes from "Jiang", which stands for the city of Nanjing, and "Su", for the city of Suzhou.
Jiangsu borders Shandong in the north, Anhui to the west, and Zhejiang and Shanghai to the south. It also has a tiny section of border with Henan in the northwest. Jiangsu has over 1,000 km coast along the Yellow Sea. The Huai River cuts through its northern sections while the Yangtze River cuts through its south. These two rivers divide Jiangsu into three distinct regions, each with their own identity, culture, and customs.

Jiangsu became a separate province in the 18th century.
Jiangsu Province spans the warm-temperate/humid and subtropical/humid climatic zones, and has clear-cut seasonal changes. There are frequently "plum rains" between spring and summer, typhoons with rainstorms in late summer and early autumn. The annual average rainfall is 800 - 1,200 mm.
Plains cover 95 percent of the Jiangsu's total area with well-developed water systems. The Grand Canal traverses all the east-west river systems. Jiangsu also borders the Yellow Sea. The Yangtze River cuts through the province, other rivers include the Huaihe River and Guanhe River.

The 13 prefecture-level divisions of Jiangsu are subdivided into 106 county-level divisions (53 districts, 27 county-level cities, and 26 counties). Those are in turn divided into 1518 township-level divisions (1117 towns, 125 townships, 1 ethnic township, and 275 subdistricts).

Jiangsu's main list of products includes: rice, wheat, corn, sorghum, millet, potatoes, soybeans, peanuts, rape, sesame, tea; cotton, ambary hemp, silk cocoons, jute; peppermint, spearmint, bamboo, and medicinal herbs; apples, pears, peaches, loquats, gingko; coal, phosphorus, salt, pottery clay; aquatic products. The economic center of the province is in Nanjing.
Out of the 74,380,000 who reside in Jiangsu, about 30 million reside in urban areas. Major ethnic groups include Han, Hui, and Manchu peoples.
Major cities in Jiangsu include: Nanjing, Wuxi, Suzhou, Xuzhou, Lianyungang, Changzhou, Nantong, Zhenjiang, Jiangyin, Huai'an, Yancheng and Yangzhou.
