Jason Newsted (born March 4, 1963) is best known as the former bassist of the heavy metal band Metallica.
Prior to joining Metallica, Jason played bass for Flotsam and Jetsam.
He joined the band in 1986 by after the death of the band's original bassist, Cliff Burton. He left Metallica in January 2001.
More recently he has also played with Voivod and is currently with Ozzy Osbourne.
