General elections in Japan determine members of the House of Representatives. The election is initiated when the Prime Minister dissolved the house or when the term of members ends. All of elections by now are due to dissolution.
In the upper house, House of Councillors, the half of the seats are up for the election of the House of Councillors every three years.
