Jade Valerie Villalon of Sweetbox (born August 12, 1980) was born in San Diego, California. She was raised in Japan from the age of three. She did her first commercial in Japan as a child, and that was a Chinese noodle commercial. Jade of Sweetbox is known by video game players as the singer for the American version of Final Fantasy X-2, the direct sequel to Final Fantasy X. Koda Kumi, who is two years younger than Jade, was the singer for the Japanese version of Final Fantasy X-2. Both performed the song, 1000 Words.
Jade's first major audition was at the age of seven on Broadway in New York City, for Gypsy. At the age of seven, Jade was a guest star, as Melanie, a teenager in the camp of HIV-positive teenage girls, in the television program "Touched by an Angel" (Episode 70: The Pact). She returned to the United States, relocating to Los Angeles, California at the age of 18.
