Irian Jaya Barat or West Irian Jaya is a new province of Indonesia which split off from Papua province. It covers Bird's Head area (Vogelkop or Kepala Burung) and surrounding islands. The new province has its own temporary governmental structure; the capital is still disputed between Sorong and Sorong)
