Founded in June 2003 on the initiative of the Swiss government, the International Risk Governance Council (IRGC) is an independent foundation which aims to support governments, business and other organizations and to foster public confidence in risk governance and in related decision-making by:

The IRGC is a unique platform for global debate, is a source of compiled and, if possible, unified scientific knowledge, and elaborates generic recommendations and guidelines. As a new kind of transparent network it follows a trans-sectoral and multidisciplinary approach to global issues of governance, focused on traditional, changing and emerging human-induced risks.
