Indiana University School of Medicine is based on the Indiana University Purdue University at Indianapolis (IUPUI) campus in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Established in 1903, the first class had only 25 students. For the 2003 - 2004 academic year, when the School kicked off its Centennial Celebration, it welcomed 280 first year medical students. First and second year medical students attend classes at any one of the nine centers located throughout the state. Third and fourth year medical students spend the last two years of medical school at the IUPUI campus, working on clinical skills in addition to classroom and laboratory work.
Students train under faculty and staff to help patients at the Indiana University Hospital, James Whitcomb Riley Childrens Hospital, Richard L. Roudebush Veterans Hospital, and the Wishard Memorial Hospital, all located on the IUPUI campus. In addition to medical students, the School also helps train interns and residents in various
