Illyria (Angel)

Illyria is a fictional goddess portrayed by Amy Acker in the fifth and final season of the US television series Angel, written by Joss Whedon.

Spoiler warning: Plot or ending details follow.

Illyria, released from a strange coffin that turned up in the Wolfram and Hart labs out of the blue, took over the body of Fred, killing her in the process. Despite his grief, Wesley was obsessed with Illyria and helped her adjust to the world because she had the same face as the woman he loved. Night after night he would get drunk, and the two would berate one another. Gunn also took Fred's strange death hard, especially when he realized he and Angel were to blame. She was the price for the infinite resources W&H had given them, and Gunn himself had, by approving the delivery of the vessel, effectively signed Fred's death warrant.

During her nights with the often-drunken Wesley and her days wandering about W&H's corridors (during which she liked training with Spike and talking to plants), Illyria began to learn the ways of people on Earth.

Illyria started losing her mind when her powers became too hard to control and began threatening to tear apart time and space. Angel had to take steps to curtail her, which curbed her madness but also weakened her. She began to feel bitter and was often sulky and withdrawn.

After a while, in the very last episode, where Wesley dies, Illyria pretends to be Fred for him. It is easily seen that she, even as Illyria, loved him, because she started to cry when he died.
