Ice Climber

Ice Climber (Japanese:アイスクライマー) is a video game for the NES developed by Nintendo. In the game, the players controls Popo (dressed in a blue eskimo suit) and Nana (a girl dressed in a pink eskimo suit). The two of them venture up an ever scrolling mountain in their quest to defeat an evil condor. The enemies they encountered on their way up the mountain include polar bears and seals (seals were in the Japanese version of the game; small yetis, called tokis, appeared in their place in the American version). Halfway through the levels, enemies would disappear and a small bonus portion of the level was available to earn extra points. This would end with the Ice Climber finding the condor.

16 years later, the Ice Climber returned to appear in Super Smash Bros. Melee as playable characters. The two of them were connected as a single character, and both would attack at the same time. They had their own stage to battle on, which was based on the stages from their original game. The enemies would also appear on the stage in certain modes of play. Though the two characters work as a unit, Nana can be defeated without Popo dying - however, the effectiveness of the Ice Climbers' special attacks is halved, and Popo can no longer use Belay when he is alone.

The original Ice Climber game is also availible on a new set of e-Reader cards from Nintendo. It was also re-released on the Gameboy Advance as part of the Classic NES Series of games.
