IBM UltraPort
IBM's Ultra Port is a USB port at the top of ThinkPad's LCD screen that has a proprietary mechanical interface and the ability to supply power beyond what is specified by the USB standard. It allows mounting of devices such as cameras, speakers, microphone arrays, etc. to the top of the laptop without the need for a cable. The devices are USB compliant, which allows them to be used with regular USB sockets simply by attaching a standard USB cable.
UltraPort was designed in 1999 in response to the proliferation of many laptop computers from Sony, Fijitsu, and others that had built-in cameras.
