Hucul

Hutsuls or Huculs (Ukrainian: Гуцули, singular: Гуцул) are a group of Ukrainian montagnards, considered a subgroup of Rusyns by some references. Alternative spellings are Hutzuls, Gutsuls, Gutzuls, Guculs.

Huculs live in the Carpathian mountains to the East of Lemkos and border with the territory of Romanians. As a result, their traditional culture bears traces of Balkan influence. Their traditional occupations were cattle and sheep breeding, forestry and timberworks.

Huculs are also widely known of their handicraft: wood carving, brassworks, rug weaving, pottery, egg decorating (see Pysanka).
