Ho-oh is a mythical character in the Pokemon series, similar to a phoenix, that can see into the future. In Pokemon Gold, Silver, and Crystal, it is caught at the Tin Tower in Ecruteak City.

Name Origin

Ho-oh's name is an English spelling of this Pokémon's Japanese name, Hōō, which happens to be the name of the Japanese version of a legendary Chinese bird.

History of Ho-oh

Long ago in Ecruteak, there were two towers, the Burned Tower and Tin Tower. Lugia and Ho-oh resided there for a long time. But one tower burned down and both fled, never to be seen again. There were also three other Pokemon, Raikou, Entei, and Suicune, whom Ho-oh created to watch over all humans, but they couldn't contain their great power and started running around the Johto region.

Ho-oh in the anime

In the first episode, Ash Ketchum sees a large, shining bird flying above the plain. He later discovers it was Ho-oh by learning from Morty, Ecruteak City's gym leader; and Eusine, a psycho who was trying to catch Suicune. The tower Ho-oh lived in had been attacked by mobs of angry Pokemon.

Ho-oh in Super Smash Bros Melee

While pretty rare, Ho-Oh can appear in Super Smash Bros Melee, out of a Pokéball Once it appears, it will fly up and into the background, and procede to use a devistating fire attack (sacred fire?) where it was
