HMS Eagle
About fifteen ships of the British Royal Navy have been named HMS Eagle, after the eagle.
(A careening hulk of 894 tons named Eagle is recorded as purchased in 1592 and sold in 1683, but was not a commissioned ship.)
- The first Eagle was the French ship Aigle, captured in 1650 and taken into the Navy, then sold in 1655.

- The fourteenth Eagle was an early aircraft carrier, converted from an unfinished Chilean battleship Almirante Cochrane and launched in 1918, and sunk in 1942.
- A 36,800 ton carrier to be named Eagle was laid down on 19 April 1944, but cancelled the following year.
- The fifteenth Eagle (R05) was one of the Navy's largest aircraft carrier, in service from 1951 to 1972.
