HMS Bellerophon

Three ships of the British Royal Navy have been named HMS Bellerophon after the mythological Greek hero Bellerophon.

The first Bellerophon was a 74-gun third-rate launched in 1786, a prison ship from 1815 (where she became famous for transporting Napoleon), renamed Captivity in 1824, and sold in 1836.

The second Bellerophon was an early battleship, launched in 1865, renamed Indus III in 1904 and used for training, then sold in 1922.

The third Bellerophon was a dreadnought battleship that was launched in 1907, fought at the Battle of Jutland in 1916, and sold for breakup in 1921.
