History of aerial warfare
Aerial warfare can be documented back as far as the American Civil War with the use of hot-air and lighter than air gas balloons used for artillery observation and reconnaisance, and exemplified in the extreme by the WW2 German raid on Rotterdam in the Netherlands in May of 1940, the Blitz on London in 1940, the Anglo-American raids on Hamburg, Germany in 1943 ("Operation Gomorrah") and on Berlin and other major German cities, the fire bombings of Tokyo, Japan in 1944 and 1945, the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August 1945, and the unprecedented tactical and strategic carpet-bombing raids conducted by B-52's over the jungles and cities of Vietnam from 1968 thru 1973...
