Hilary Swank (born July 30, 1974 in Lincoln, Nebraska) is an American actress. She won an Academy Award for Best Actress in 1999 for her portrayal of a transgendered man in the movie Boys Don't Cry.
Her career in Hollywood was launched with the release of The Karate Kid 4 (a.k.a. The Next Karate Kid), where she played the first female protegee of the by then legendary professor Mr. Miyagi (Pat Morita).
Swank also had a recurring role on the television show Beverly Hills 90210.
