Hans Jakob Christoffel von Grimmelshausen (c. 1622 - August 17, 1676) was the greatest German novelist of the 17th century. In his most famous work Der abenteuerliche Simplicissimus Teutsch he tells the fortunes of the hero during the troublous times of the Thirty Years' War.
