Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS), a university specializing in languages and foreign studies, is located in Seoul, South Korea.
HUFS was founded as college for studying languages in April 1954 with its first students studying English, French, Chinese, German and Russian.
Through the 1960s and 70s, the college expanded its programmes and finally became a full university in 1980. In 1981, it opened its second campus in Yong-in near Seoul.
HUFS has continued to set up new language departments, graduate courses, and various research institutes. Now, there are 49 departments in the university.
