Hangman's knot

The hangman's knot is a well-known form of knot. With a loop on the end, the person's head is placed through the loop and the knot is fastened closely around the person's neck. The knot is non-jamming.

The knot's origins are ancient. It is typically made with thirteen turns, for superstitious reasons. (See Triskaidekaphobia, fear of the number thirteen).

For safety reasons, one should never place a noose around another's neck if one ties this knot.
