Hadlow Castle

Hadlow "Castle" is a folly in Hadlow, Kent. Also called "May's Folly", it was owned by Walter Barton May, designed by George Ledwell Taylor and built in the 1840s.

Its centrepiece was a Victorian Gothic tower, currently 170 feet but originally much higher. It fell into disrepair but was saved from demolishion in 1951 by the painter Bernard Hailstone. The tower is all that remains of the original building, and the pinnacles were removed for safety reasons.
