GuideML

GuideML is an markup language variant used on h2g2. GuideML has two major tastes:

GuideML is an acronym for Guide Markup Language. It is compatible with XML standards, but mostly consists of a subset of HTML with some fancy extra tags. The aim is to provide a simple kind of HTML for use in textual based pages. Scripts are not allowed on h2g2 and are voided by the parsers publishing a version of pages.

One of the most famous 'extra' tags is the <VIEWER/> which results in displaying a user's nickname, if the user is online.

On other Bbc.co.uk using the same backend, GuideML is given other names, such as CollectiveML on Collective.
