This page is about a Sesame Street character. For other uses, see Grover (disambiguation)
Grover was a puppet in the 1970s TV show Sesame Street.
Grover described himself on the show as a "cute furry, little monster." He is fuzzy and blue, and much like other Muppets on the show in appearance. The Grover character did not use contractions when he spoke. Grover may have been named after former US president Grover Cleveland. It is more likely , however, that the Muppet Workshop and Sesame Workshop chose this name, as it was out of vogue, and unlikely to unintentionally offend many viewers.
Grover was performed by puppeteer and now film director Frank Oz who also does Bert.
The Grover character appeared in the following memorable skits:
He is most remembered for the now famous "Near, Far" sketch, in which he demonstrated the positional concepts until he fainted from exhaustion, and also for his role as Super Grover.
