Grassy knoll

Grassy knoll is a term used for a geographical area of grass that is elevated above a lower nearby area.

Probably the most famous grassy knoll in the world is the grassy knoll of Dealey Plaza located in Dallas Texas. It is the sloping hill area inside the plaza that became famous and notorious after the John F. Kennedy assassination.

The knoll was above and to President Kennedy's right side during his assassination on November 22, 1963.

Some assassination theories reach the conclusion that a shot or shots came from this grassy knoll during the assassination, in contrast to the Warren Commission conclusion that one Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone to assassinate Kennedy. The House Select Committee on Assassinations investigation from 1975 to 1979 concluded that an unknown assassin fired the third of four shots fired at Kennedy from behind the picket fence on the grassy knoll, and, that there was a probable conspiracy in the assassination of President Kennedy.

On November 22, 1963 the grassy knoll was bounded by the Texas School Book Depository building along the Elm Street Abutment side street to the northeast, Elm Street and a sidewalk on its southern side, a vehicles parking lot on its northwest side, and a railroad triple overpass bridge above the convergence of Commerce, Main, and Elm Streets on the grassy knoll west boundary.

Located within the grassy knoll on November 22, 1963 were dozens of witnesses, three manmade sewers, three large traffic signposts, four sidewalk lamp posts, the Bryan's north pergola cement structure including its two enclosed shelters, a tool shed, two 3.3' high cement walls connected to each of the pergola shelters, nine tall, wide, low-hanging-foliage live oak trees, a 5' tall, wooden, picketed, stockade, cornered fenceline approximately 176' long, and numerous 2' to 6' tall bushes, smaller trees, and hedges.

Because of persistent debate and conspiracy theories surrounding the Kennedy assassination and the possible role of the Dealey Plaza grassy knoll, a "grassy knoll" has also come to be a slang expression indicating something suspicious or something that suggests that there are untold aspects to an official story.
