Goodnight Sweetheart was a British sitcom starring Nicholas Lyndhurst, in which Lyndhurst's character Gary Sparrow travels back and forth in time in London from 1990s to the East End of London during The Blitz, leading a quite complicated life in each era. The show is essentially a science fiction nostalgia vehicle.
The title comes from the wartime song "Goodnight, Sweetheart", which can be heard in the opening and end titles.
Gary's best mate Ron Wheatcroft was played by Victor McGuire. Christopher Ettridge played stupid 1940s policeman Reg Deadman.
Irish actress Dervla Kirwan portrayed 1940s barmaid Phoebe Bamford in series 1-3, but was later replaced by Elizabeth Carling for series 4-6 (playing Bamford as a Cockney). 1990s Yvonne Sparrow, played by Michelle Holmes during series 1-3 was also replaced for series 4-6 by stub.
