Goaltender

The Goaltender in ice hockey is a player who plays within the crease in front of the net and defends the net from shots. The position is also called goalie or goalkeeper (usually in soccer). Due to the power and frequency of shots the goaltender wears extra equipment specially padded to protect his body, a hockey mask to protect the head, on one hand they wear a glove and they hold a hockey stick in the other hand.

More often than players in any other position goalies are more likley to go into broadcasting or sports writing once their playing career is over. This is largelly as goalies spend much of any game simply watching the game in fron of them. It may also be linked to goalies suffering far fewer blows to the head than skaters.
