Gingerbread is an English cookie similar to the German Lebkuchen. It is used to produce gingerbread men and the witch houses made popular by Hansel and Gretel.
Originally, the term gingerbread (from Latin zingiber via Old French gingebras) referred to preserved ginger, then to confection made with honey and spices ().
