In common speech, a gig can refer to a one-time job. Musicians, for example, can refer to a paid performance as a gig, as in the violist joke "What is the difference between a violist driving to town, and a plumber driving to town? Answer: the plumber is driving to a gig."
Gig can also refer to a gigabyte, meaning a billion (<math>10^9<math>) bytes.
