Gamla Uppsala

Gamla Uppsala ("Old Uppsala") is a village outside of Uppsala in Sweden.

It is generally regarded to be the location of Temple at Uppsala, the ancient pagan Ása cult site, among scholars. The identification of Gamla Uppsala as the Ubsola of the Sagas has a sound basis from both tradition, archaeology and mediaeval sources.

It is called Old Uppsala, because the name Uppsala was moved to the harbour settlement Östra Aros, by papal request when the Swedes wanted to build a new cathedral there.

This identification is, however, challenged by a small number of amateur historians from the province of Westrogothia, see Ancient Uppsala and Götaland theory.
